Glass Mirrors Offered by American Furniture Manufactures

Many American furniture manufacturers offer glass mirrors to match specific furniture collections, while others offer mirrors as specific home accents. Glass mirrors are specified here because many are made from reflective aluminum foil - these are generally regarded as being of inferior quality to the genuine glass item although can be just as effective.

At one time mirrors were made using a backing of mercury, but these are no longer manufactured. They can also be made using silver, precipitated from a silver nitrate solution. However, today, most mirrors are made by evaporating aluminum onto glass, although other coats are applied to improve adhesion and durability. For example, a black backing can be applied to improve opacity and reflectivity.

Non-glass mirrors can be made using any clear substrate other than glass, the most common being acrylic. These are generally less expensive than glass, and some very cheap versions are nothing more than a polished metal surface. Here is a review of some of the mirrors offered by a selection of American furniture manufacturers.

Paula Deen Mirrors

Paula Deen lives in Savannah, and is well known both for her furniture range and her home cooking TV programs. The mirror provided with the Paula Deen Steel Magnolia dresser is a 49 inch wide landscape mirror. It is 35 inches high, and can be purchase separately to use in any room in your home.

Paula Deen items of furniture are made by Universal, and another rectangular mirror offered by the company is 46 x 38 inches: these mirrors are available in a number of finishes to suit your home décor. If you feel a rectangle is not fancy enough for you, then try out the Paula Deen Ladies Storage Mirror. This is a mirror with a difference with a solid wood frame and bowed top.

The Ladies Storage Mirror is so called because it is fitted with two drawers across the base. The mirror is self-standing and can be use on any flat surface, such as a dresser or sideboard. It is 37 inches wide x 31 high, with a depth of 9 inches to accommodate the drawers.

Homelegance Glass Mirrors

Homelegance is one of the better American furniture manufacturers, and the company markets a number of mirrors suitable for dressers or any other item of furniture. The Canton mirror is particularly impressive at 42 inches square. In a classic simple Chinese style with an espresso finish, this is beautifully simple mirror that works with most decorative styles.

The mirror offered with Homelegance's Wilmington rage of bedroom furniture is even simpler. Available in a warm cherry finish, this mirror stands 47 inches high and 37.5 inches wide. The reflective surface is set in a beautifully simple solid wood frame that would match a wide range of furniture styles.

Broyhill Collections

If you are looking for a chic mirror to suit a modern or contemporary bedroom, Broyhill offers their black lattice mirror. This is very chic, with the reflective surface framed in black and chrome latticework. At 42 x 37 inches, this beautiful creation comes fitted for vertical or horizontal hanging. It has been deigned to match the Broyhill Perspectives bedroom furniture range, but can equally be used as a mirror in any room in your house.

Most American furniture manufacturers include mirrors in their range of bedroom furniture, and some also manufacture mirrors for the living room or dining room. Bedroom mirrors are not necessarily restricted to that room, and many are used all over the house - wherever reflection and a need to expand a room are required.

The placement of glittering glass mirrors is just as important as their design, and many people fail to make the best of these home accents by locating them wrongly. Glass mirrors reflect light, so you should place them where they achieve this to their maximum capacity. Use them to reflect candlelight, natural light from a window, or even light from your beautiful decorative lamps.

However you use them, make the best of your glass mirrors because they have the capacity to turn a gloomy home into one filled with light and reflections of your decorative tastes. Do not look upon mirrors as being individual home accents, but as components of an overall decorative scheme designed to bring out the best in your home. Combine them with lamps, candles, windows and natural light to light up your home and illuminate your life.
